London to Review Iran+s Documentary Cinema

Conference on Iranian Documentary Cinema

Tehran, May 27, 2009: Iran+s documentary cinema is to be reviewed in a two-day conference scheduled for June 5-6 in London.

The confab will also discuss social and cultural impacts of the 1979 Islamic Revolution on Iranian documentary cinema, ISNA reported.

"Our Time" by Rakhshan Bani-Etemad, “The Other Side of Burka“ by Mehrdad Oskouei, "Ladies" by Mahnaz Afzali, "Haaj Abbas+ Wives" by Mohsen Abdolwahhab are among the films to be screened at the event.

Rokhsareh Qaemmaqami+s "Cyanosis" will be also reviewed.

The 32-minute animated documentary tells the story of an itinerant artist Jamshid who falls in love with a French girl.

"Cyanosis" has received a Certificate of Merit from Finland+s 38th International Tampere Film Festival and the Silver Nanook award at Russia+s Flahertiana International Documentary Film Festival.

It has also won the best student documentary award at the 2008 Sheffield Documentary Festival.

The confab will also highlight Iran+s cultural and artistic achievements in music and photography in the past 30 years.

The conference aims to bring some of the best-known practitioners in the media and contemporary arts inside Iran together with academicians and theoreticians of Iran+s art and cultural developments in a unique encounter, SOAS announced on its website.

The event will be organized by the Center for Media and Film Studies at SOAS (the School of Oriental and African Studies in London) in a joint effort with Iran+s Cultural Center in London.
