| History of Aliabad Katool Goes back to 7000 Years Ago | ||||||||||

With conducting archeological excavations in Aliabad Katool located in Iranian northern province of Golstan, archeologists have concluded that the history of this region dates back to 7000 years ago.

Tehran, 24 October 2007 (CHN Foreign Desk) -- With continuing of archeological excavations conducted by experts of the Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts, and Tourism Department of Golestan province, the history of Aliabad Katool reached to 7000 years ago.
Regarding the achievements during the first season of archeological excavations in Aliabad Katool, Mohammad Mehdi Borhani, archeologist and head of archeology team in Aliabad Katool told CHN: “The first season of archeological excavations in Katoul which lasted for 2 months led into discovery of 130 historic hills and architectural remains ranging in date from 7000 years ago to recent century.”
Borhani further added that while prior to this the number of historical sites in this area was estimated 70, during recent excavations archeologists have succeeded in identifying 130 historical sites which have been introduced to be registered in list of Iran’s National Heritage Sites for being pinpointed in archeology map of the country.
“The discovered evidence is consisted of historical sites, hills, and monuments. Most of the discovered architectural remains including 4 baths, a residential place, a bridge, and a water mill belong to the post-Sassanian period (651 AD afterwards). Most of which has been discovered in the plains of Katoul city,” added Borhani.
