Nazeri to Perform at Tunisian Festival

Tehran, July 29, 2010: Internationally-acclaimed Iranian vocalist Shahram Nazeri is set to perform during the 46th edition of Tunisia+s Carthage International Music Festival.

According to presstv.com, Nazeri will perform traditional Persian music inspired by poems of the 11th-century Persian epic poet, Ferdowsi.

Farid Elhami (Tanbour), Saeed Nayeb-Mohammadi (lute), Mohammad Jaberi (Daf), Saber Nazargahi (Divan) and Younes Paknejad (Kamancheh) will accompany Nazeri during his Carthage festival performance on August 10, 2010.

This will be Nazeri+s sixth international Shahnameh-inspired performance, which will relate Ferdowsi+s story of Zahhak and Kaveh the Blacksmith.

Shahnameh (The Book of Kings) is composed of about 55,000 couplets and recounts Persian history and mythology from the earliest times to the fall of the Persian Empire in the 7th century CE.

The work has been one of the greatest inspirations of Iranian people in life and arts and is among the first Persian manuscripts to be illustrated.

Nazeri is known as a prominent icon of Persian classical, Kurdish and Sufi music, who received the French Chevalier des Arts et Lettres medal for his lifetime achievements in Persian classical music.

The Iranian vocalist has also been granted Asia Society+s prestigious Lifetime Cultural Heritage Award.

The 46th Carthage International Festival will be held From July 8 to August 19, presenting 36 concerts by local and international artists in the historical city of Carthage.
