Grahame-Smith to Write “Dark Shadows” Script

Seth Grahame-Smith

Tehran, July 19, 2010: Seth Grahame-Smith, author of recent hit mash-ups “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies” and “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter”, will write a script for the Tim Burton film “Dark Shadows”.

Based on a 1960s TV show, the film is set to star Johnny Depp and to begin filming in January, The Independent reported.

The American television show “Dark Shadows” was a daytime soap opera that ran from 1966 through 1971.

Ghosts entered the plot six months into the series, followed by a vampire, Barnabas Collins, who will be played by Depp in the film. The campy show, now a cult classic, ultimately managed to tie in werewolves, ghosts, zombies, witches, warlocks, time travel, and a parallel universe.

Grahame-Smith reportedly got the offer to write the script thanks to his recent best-seller “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter”, a mash-up of history and horror that begins when the one-day US president learns at an early age that his mother was killed by a supernatural predator.

A Tim Burton-produced film adaptation of that title is in the works, as is a feature film based on Grahame-Smith+s widely successful mash-up for Quirk Books, “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies”.
