The group, which won the silver medal of the Folklore Section and the bronze medal of the Mixed Chamber Choirs section, was also awarded the bronze medal of the event+s Pop music category. "These awards can help us participate in Austria+s Grand Prix, which hosts internationally-award winning groups from around the globe, next year," Tehran Vocal Ensemble conductor Milad Omranlou told ISNA. The group performed four folkloric pieces from different Iranian regions in the event+s Folklore Section. For the Chamber Music Competition Section, the ensemble performed pieces by Iran+s Ali-Akbar Qorbani and Ahmad Pejman as well as Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov+s Flight of the Bumble Bee. The group performed four pieces at the Pop category of this year+s World Choir Games, including one from the popular American sitcom Friends, which was very welcomed by the audience. According to Omranlou, this is the first time that an Iranian ensemble receives a medal in the Pop section. The 16-member ensemble has won numerous international awards including two medals at the 2009 World Choir Championship in Gyeognam, South Korea. Formerly called the Choir Olympics, the World Choir Games hosts choirs from all over the world in an effort to promote solidarity among world nations with the motto of “Singing together brings nations together.” |
