Tehran, 21 September 2005 (CHN) – Studies on the corpse samples of the 4th salt man which were sent to Oxford University a few months ago for dating him have cost Iran 1400 Pounds.
The fourth salt man which was found at an ancient salt mine in Chehr-abad, Zanjan last year has been identified as a young adult. Examination of the man’s face shows that it lacks any beard and his height is 165-70 cm. This last found salt man is the most intact of all four found so far. It is being kept in one of the museums of Zanjan sity.
Regarding the 1400 Pound bill sent by Oxford University for the Restoration Research Center of Iran, Manizheh Hadian, a restoration expert, explained, “It is not clear yet whether this amount is Iran’s share of the research or it is the whole expenses of the research which according to previous talks, Iran should pay for half,” Hadian also noted that the studies for dating the man took a long time to complete.
The corpse of the salt man is now fixated and he is kept under appropriate conditions. For transferring the corpse to its display spot in Zanjan museum a special showcase has been designed to not only prevent the corpse from decay, but also to match the interior design of the museum hall.
The gender of the corpse is not yet distinguished and more studies must be carried out.
